Mindfulness or Mindlessness?

It was just over a month ago that I shared about PTMTO. The five words that changed my life then and still do. I wrote at that time what each letter/word meant to me and said there would be a follow-up.

There’s a lot of talk about “mindfulness” nowadays and meditation. Strangely enough (Bible) meditation has not been taught in a practical way (so that each disciple can actually make it a part of their life) and probably not in most churches since the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Ask yourself: When was the last time you heard a sermon on biblical meditation? And if you have heard one recently, ask again: Were you able to leave church that day with a regular practice of Bible meditation as a part of your life?

The combination of lack of training (for decades) in this command of God to meditate in His Word in a practical way and the mix of our “instant”, high speed modern world, has caused many to seek answers in meditation (for peace of mind and “relax”) that is not based on the Bible, requiring you to look for rhythm from within, peace and wisdom down inside, etc.

Many Christians are getting caught up in this type of mindless (emptying your mind) meditation, and they do not realise that the modern world is only catching up on what God has provided for us in (Bible) meditation since the dawn of time.

Do the answers really lie within, or is peace - the one “that passes all understanding” - found with the Prince of Peace (Colossians iii 15-16)? Is wisdom found deep within or from God (outside of yourself - James i 5)? Why would you settle for the counterfeit, or dilute (Bible) meditation into what it was never intended to be, especially when you can have the genuine, which Jesus bought for you and gives you free of charge?
