An Invitation to Intimacy

I believe with all my heart that the Heart of Love at the heart of the universe has a deep longing for intimacy with me.

Not with me only either. But also with you!

Ever since the (Fall in the) Garden, God has pursued mankind for relationship, and has repeatedly, patiently, suffered long to bridge that gap caused by our sin, sending Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice to allow us free passage into His presence.

And yet, mankind has repeatedly remained at a distance rebuffing the Hand that heals and restores for a multitude of pitiful excuses in the name of seeking “happiness”.

How wounded God must be by our rejections of His Love showered upon us daily from the moment we open our eyes (a gift) and take our first waking breath (another gift) in the new day He has prepared for us (yet another gift)!

We’ll look at some of those heart cries from our Father in coming days, God willing, but, for now, slow down, and read this well-known verse slowly:

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me ~ Revelation iii 20

Just listen to that.

Jesus is the one knocking. He is waiting at the door. Waiting for “any man” (or woman) to open the door. That’s all. If “any man” hears His voice and opens the door, Jesus will come in to him (her) and dine with him. Even a little child can respond to this invitation.

And that last phrase. Listen to the intimacy … “and he with me”. Jesus comes in, sits, eats and talks. Wow!

This verse is written to a local church. People who love Jesus are included in the “any man” as well.

How many days do we go about living our lives without much thought for God or living out of a place of ‘much duty’, mostly content to be living fairly happily, the way we feel is right, but yet … without the intimacy of Him filling our conscious moments?

What does it do to God’s heart when you miss the knock and His voice calling you in the noise of your busy life? He is calling you and He is calling me to greater intimacy TODAY.
