A Hidden Treasury

Many years ago, when I was at the outset of my twenties and entering a calling that came without salary, the LORD gave me a promise, which never ceases to amaze me.

As those closest to me thought I might be a crazy youth and wondered how my dreams could be fulfilled without visible means of support, the LORD said to my soul that He would provide for me out of a “hidden treasury”.

Nearly fifty years on from that word He gave me, I can point to literally thousands of instances of His faithfulness. Far too many to include in this tiny space.

Beginning with ten initial years on the mission field without any visible or promised support, He met my dues of monthly needs faithfully and every year monthly provision would increase and I would not know from where it would arrive.

My mother used to call my bank account (which she used to monitor for me while I was abroad): “a bottomless pit”!!

As my (and now “our”) journey has continued, and my wife and I pursue that mandate of God and assignment in the nations to “declare His glory among the heathen, His wondrous works among all nations”, He remains faithful and that hidden treasury continues to supply and amaze.

This morning, I read another verse that is also our current story both in housing and also in many other ways on our travels:

“And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.” ~ Josh‬ ‭xxiv 13

When one dares to trust God and the calling on one’s life, one can also experience His faithfulness‬.

As a dear friend of ours in Uganda says, “God’s will; God’s bill”
