What a Day Brings Forth
Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
~ Proverbs xxvii 1
I think a lot of people reading this will have heard already about what happened just under ten days ago. It came to my mind last night that this might be a journey I should blog about it. So here goes.
[Health warning for this post: Perhaps not for the squeamish! 😏]
A drop of blood on the bathroom floor, and then some damp on my jeans alerted me, on the morning of Monday 9th March, that perhaps I had a problem.
The doctor, who owns our current lodging, thought so and before the day’s end I was in a dermatologist’s office having a biopsy done.
It was then on Saturday night, after a delightful evening with our Superheroes - the group of eager trainees learning more about storytelling (STS style) as well as how to train others in STS - our doctor friend crossed the city to come and tell us that melanoma had been found in my left leg.
That led us to last night … an appointment with an oncologist, who informed me that the melanoma was “bad”, and that he would need to remove it surgically and out to two centimetres all the way round it, as well as all the way down to the muscle!
We were also informed that the “Sentinel lymph node” will need to be “tested” with a radioactive substance to see if the other lymph nodes are infected. If they are then there will be further surgery to remove all the nodes in that region. (The two Sentinel ones will also be removed at the end of the operation anyway).
So there you have it. What Monday 9th brought forth! I think our days are going to look different in the coming weeks. Pre-operation procedures have begun, and no doubt, I will be “under the knife” in a matter of days.
